The Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) is among the nation’s leading providers of continuing professional education. SCCO’s Continuing Education mission is to engage optometrists in enhancing their clinical knowledge and expertise to benefit patients they serve.
Our CE programs include the latest advances in research, technology and clinical practice to benefit optometric vision care. We endeavor to make each course, whether live or online, practical, professional, and applicable to guidelines established by the state boards of optometry.
Our courses address a wide range of topics to suit all areas of practice.
- Online Registration
We now provide our registrants with the convenience of Online Program Registration. You may view course content and register for any program by clicking on the Program List. You may view by date, location, program content and CE Hours. A biographical sketch of SCCO faculty who are lecturing on each program is provided.
We have included the VA Grand Rounds in this new registration format. We have provided a full brochure for you to view when choosing which Wednesdays during the year will fit into your schedule.
The CE Department is confident Online Registration will become your method of choice. We are available by phone to assist you with registration questions during CE business hours, 8 am – 5 pm, Monday - Friday.
- Glaucoma Law SB 1406
The new Glaucoma Law SB 1406 Passed! If you have not taken the 24-Hour Glaucoma Certification, you will have to complete this as phase 1. Phase 2 is now under development and will be announced in 2010.
Southern California College of Optometry will provide the 24-Hour Glaucoma Certification Course on August 21-23, 2009. This is a Friday, Saturday and Sunday program.
For those who have taken the Certification Course at SCCO in the past and desire to refresh your knowledge while learning about the latest in diagnostics and pharmacology, you may take this course a second time at no charge. However, you will not receive CE credit for those hours. This offer is available on a space available basis.
The course is limited to the first 100 optometrists who register by March 1, 2009. Thereafter, you will be placed on a waiting list. For those who wish to take any part of the course as CE Credit only, please contact us for information regarding available space.

- Online/Internet-Based CE Courses
The courses available online are designed to offer optometrists assistance in a timely format to fulfill their requirements for re-licensure renewal. You may earn up to 25 hours of COPE-approved CE credit. Instructions for viewing, registration and examinations are addressed in the introduction to each course. www.scco.edu/ceonline.
The Council on Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE) website houses a collection of CE requirements for all state regulatory boards in the U.S.
- The Low Vision Institute
Continuing Education For Eye Care Professionals
SCCO announces a partnership with Low Vision Institute to provide additional forms of internet-based continuing education for optometrists who include low vision in their practice.
Low Vision Institute Educational Venue
The Low Vision Institute provides continuing education to eye care professionals who are interested in low vision. These internet based/online ce courses are provided in a media rich envirionment, allowing you to see slide presentations, and listen to experts in various topics. There are four (4) lectures available at this time with others launching in early 2009.
Most courses are COPE-approved. Other certifications may be available on a course-by-course basis.

Registration Cancellation Policy
If you must cancel your registration, a written notice (via fax, mail, or email) must be postmarked no later than seven (7) days prior to your scheduled course. You will then receive a 90% refund, minus an administrative fee of $25. If your cancellation is postmarked at least 3 days prior to the course you will receive 75% of your registration fees, minus an administrative fee of $25. There will be no refunds or transfers of registration fees after that time.
