The Southern California College of Optometry celebrated its first 100 years in 2004. To mark this momentous occasion a variety of events were held both on- and off-campus to recognize the College's outstanding contributions to the profession of optometry.

Chartered by the State of California in 1904, the Southern California College of Optometry is the third oldest of the 17 schools and colleges of optometry in the United States. SCCO is a private, independent, and non-profit institution located in Fullerton, California.

The College's unique qualities are its superior clinical program, solid academic program, and its contributions to leadership. Each August an entering class of 96 students begins the four-year, fully accredited Doctor of Optometry degree program. Our students represent a highly specialized group of individuals who come from a wide variety of geographical, educational, and cultural backgrounds. A bachelor's degree is required for admission.

The College's Fullerton Eye Care Center and Optometric Center of Los Angeles, serve close to 30,000 patients annually. The Centers provide primary care and specialty services including ocular disease and special testing, pediatrics and vision therapy, contact lenses, and low vision rehabilitation. The College's community outreach programs serve thousands more, including over 25,000 vision screenings annually of school children in the Southern California area.

The origin and development of the Southern California College of Optometry proudly mirrors the history of the profession of optometry, and that of the optical industry. The 98-page Gala Program, highlighting 100 men and women who contributed to the success of the College, includes a timeline of this 100-year history.

We invite you to continue the celebration of the Southern California College of Optometry's proud past and visionary future by taking a walk down "Memory Lane" through the various links to the left. It was a busy year with many wonderful moments.
