Dr. Lorraine Voorhees serves as the Vice President of Student Affairs at the Southern California College of Optometry. Among her areas of responsibility are: admissions and recruitment, student financial aid, student government and organizations, student academic records, and student services; as well as, serving as a student advocate and liaison between the students and the administration. Dr. Voorhees received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry and a Master of Science degree with a concentration in Higher Education from California State University at Fullerton. She has also completed an optometric fellowship at the Gesell Institute of Child Development in New Haven, CT. Dr. Voorhees has been with the college since 1972 and has previously served as a faculty member, Director of the Optometric Technician Program, Director of Admissions and Records, and Director of Student Affairs. She has held numerous volunteer positions in the American Optometric Association, the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry and the American Academy of Optometry. She formerly served as chair of ASCO's Council on Student Affairs and currently serves as ASCO's liaison to the American Dental Association for the Optometry Admissions Test. She also chaired a national conference on Optometric Students which was part of the Summit on Optometric Education series. Her areas of research interests are predictors of academic success in the curriculum and on the National Board exams and the influence of gender on career decisions and practices among optometry students and among optometric practitioners.
