In July 1997, Lesley L. Walls, O.D., M.D., became the sixth president of the Southern California College of Optometry. Prior to that time, he had been involved in medical and optometric education as either a faculty member or administrator for more than 20 years. His perspective, derived from years in both medicine and optometry, was crucial to the curriculum and priorities of the College during his 11 year presidency.

Dr. Walls' personal interests parallel that of many of the College’s leaders – he is a teacher and lecturer in the classroom, a leader in support of organized optometry, and a tireless proponent and spokesman for legislative reform. Having acknowledged this, perhaps his most enduring trait is his love and passion for the College’s students and graduates. He revels in their achievements and successes.
