BVS 510 Clinical Integration of Basic Science
1 Lecture Hours, 2 Lab Hours, 0 Clinic Hours

This course utilizes a hybrid problem-based learning (PBL) format that aims to develop critical thinking skills and self-directed learning while integrating concepts from basic science courses. Clinical cases will be explored in depth throughout the quarter through individual and group participation, building upon existing knowledge, and testing theories so the group and individual focus shifts from finding answers to improving theories. Some of the collaborative problem-solving work is computer mediated and asynchronous and some will be conducted face-to-face in weekly small group sessions. Group members are responsible for identifying the knowledge and skill demands of the problem; assessing their own competency with respect to these demands; identifying issues about which more must be learned; and locating and using effective resources to address their identified deficiencies.
