Outreach Clinical Programs
The Outreach Clinical Program has been in existence since 1974 and provides fourth year interns with three off-campus clinical rotations. Each rotation lasts 10 – 12 weeks and is designed to enhance the intern’s clinical knowledge and proficiency. The program provides diverse clinical settings including Veteran’s Administration Medical Centers, military bases, HMOs, Indian Health Service facilities, co-management centers, and limited private practice. These sites are located throughout the United States, but predominantly in the western region – Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Washington. Outreach sites are also available in Guam and Japan.
The Outreach Clinical faculty are leading clinicians and serve as adjunct faculty members of the College. SCCO's Outreach Clinical Program has been cited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education of the American Optometric Association as "unparalleled in optometric clinical education."
