COA OptoWest, April 4-6, 2013
COA OptoWest, April 4-6, 2013 was the place to celebrate. The Alumni and Friends reception was a great place to network for everyone: students had the opportunity to mingle, alumni caught up with friends. In the exhibit hall, faculty member, Barry Weissman, was the winning bidder on our SCCO silent auction entry. Also at OptoWest, Dr. Alexander and Mr. Stover had the opportunity to meet with alumnus, Rob Day, ’76, who pledged $100,000 to ACHIEVING 2020 – the first pledge to the school as a university!

2013 SCCO Reunion Evening Celebration
The 2013 SCCO Reunion Evening Celebration was attended by over 100 on Saturday, February 16, with 65 alumni connecting for hours. Per Dr. Brian Higa, ’93: “Pretty much non-stop talking and catching up with classmates. Thank you for a wonderful evening.” The 50-year and 25-year anniversary classes received their Gold “O” and Silver “O’ certificates along with a gold and/or silver SCCO gift. President Kevin Alexander provided a quick update on the College’s future plans and perspective on how far Optometry has progressed. The three year-old February Reunion format is much more casual than in the recent past – more casual attire, room to roam, and plenty of talk-time. The Class of 1993 used Facebook to get the word out – 25 classmates attended. The Class of 1983 provided current classmate photos to include in the slide show, and the Class of 1988 shared within their group a slide show of the past and a photo album of their past reunions. The Alumni Association and SCCO Alumni Relations plan on seeing even more of our wonderful alumni on February 15, 2014.

(COA's) Monterey Symposium
The Glaucoma Certification Track and countless other sessions saw the SCCO power team of Drs. George Comer, David Sendrowski , Mark Sawamura, '91; Judy Tong, '91; Susan Cotter; and Julie Schornack teach more than 40% of the CE hours provided. JT Tassinari, '87, as 12- year Chair of the COA Education and Clinical Practice Committee, brought his entire paraoptometric team for the special CE. Alumni came from all over the country, including Jackie McCall, O.D., '86, from Baxter, Minnesota. Alumni reconnected at the Exhibit Booth and at the evening Alumni Reception where guests enjoyed an espresso bar and desserts.
