President’s Message Dear Fellow Friends and Family of SCCO: The Southern California College of Optometry is about to make bold transformative changes that are historic in size and will surely shape the future for the next 50 years. As SCCO’s history will change with the addition of new health programs, we will remain powered by optometry. Today, SCCO is committed to raising resources to fund our future expansion. To achieve the goal, we are launching the most ambitious fundraising campaign in the history of SCCO. Our goal is to raise $20 million in support of faculty, students, new academic priorities and programs, and capital projects. To date, the College has raised more than $1.5 million toward the $20 million goal. The first phase of the campaign is to be achieved by the end of 2015. While we have achieved much in our 107 years as a College of Optometry, we are poised to take on a new future with a new normal. That new normal is to embrace the need to create an interprofessional campus for health care education while also having a bigger impact on the health of our community. We have enormous talent leading the way at SCCO and the time is right to tap its full potential. |
It is true that SCCO was born in Los Angeles in 1904, but we are getting our new wings in Orange County. There is no destination finer than the future and we are the pioneers to make it happen. When you walk around the campus and you see the inscriptions on the walls that have prodded our characters forward, one stands out at this time in our history:
“If better is possible, good is not enough.”
The inscriptions will continue to inspire, but none will take the place of our talented faculty, students, alumni and friends—the real people who light the path before us. There is simply no dream too big for SCCO and ACHIEVING 2020 is that new dream before us.
