Alumni Elected to AOA Board

Two alumni of the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO), have been elected to top positions on the Board of Trustees of the American Optometric Association (AOA).  Class of 1978 Alumnus Ronald L. Hopping, O.D., M.P.H., was elected President-Elect and Mitchell T. Munson, O.D., Class of 1986, was elected Vice President.  The election was held at the 114th Annual AOA Congress and 41st Annual American Optometric Student Association Conference:  Optometry's Meeting® June 2011, in Salt Lake City, UT.

"Members of the SCCO Community are incredibly proud of Doctors Hopping and Munson for their election to the AOA Board of Trustees.  They continue the long and outstanding record of volunteer service for which our alumni are so well known," said SCCO President Kevin L. Alexander, O.D., Ph.D., who served as AOA President, 2007–08.  "The years of dedicated service by Doctors Hopping and Munson to organized optometry, on the state and national levels has been, and will continue to be, invaluable."

Doctors Hopping and Munson will serve on the Executive Committee of the AOA's Board of Trustees, 2011–12 with President Dori M. Carlson, O.D., and Immediate Past-President Joe E. Ellis, O.D.

Dr. Hopping is in full-time, independent practice with this wife, Desiree Hopping, O.D., and two associates in the Clear Lake area of Houston, TX.  Dr. Munson has a group practice in Highlands Ranch, CO, with his wife and classmate, Susan Brunnett Munson, O.D.
