One hundred and two students have begun SCCO's four-year Doctor of Optometry degree program. The Class of 2014 includes 76 women and 26 men, four of whom are studying to become second-generation optometrists.
The mean GPA for the class was 3.40 and the mean Optometry Admission Test score was 332. All students have completed their bachelor degrees and two students have completed a master's degree. Members of the Class of 2014 earned degrees from 38 different colleges and universities. Sixty-five students received their degree from the University of California system. The number one school represented is UCLA with 17 students and the second school is UC San Diego with 15, followed by UC Irvine, 13; and UC Davis, 10.
Overall, 14 states are represented. They are: Alaska, 1; Arizona, 3; California, 82; Idaho, 2; Illinois, 2; Michigan, 1; Nevada, 1; North Carolina, 1; Oregon, 1; Texas, 2; Utah, 1; Virginia, 1; Washington, 2; and Wyoming, 2. The ethnicity of Class Members is: African American, 2; Asian, 60; Caucasian, 32; Hispanic, 7; and Native American, 1.
