Inspiring, awesome, incredible – three words heard from guests admiring the artwork created by visually impaired artists at the Southern California College of Optometry's (SCCO's) Shared Visions Art Exhibit Opening Reception held, November 16.  Ninety-three works of art by 44 blind, legally blind and visually impaired artists make-up the exhibit and are now on display at SCCO's Eye Care Center located at 2575 Yorba Linda Blvd., Fullerton, CA.

The 2012–13 Shared Visions Art Exhibit is a juried exhibit that includes photography, sculptures, oils, watercolors, mosaics, woodcarving and more.  Many of the artists were on-hand at the opening reception for what has become an annual event.  The international art exhibit, one of only four such art exhibitions of its kind in the United States, is now in its eighth year.

"The Shared Visions Art Exhibit provides a unique gallery venue for visually impaired artists," said SCCO President Kevin L. Alexander, O.D., Ph.D.  "The exhibit, originally started in 2005, provides an opportunity for our Doctors of Optometry and Optometric Interns to educate the community-at-large about eye disorders and diseases that cause vision loss, as well as available rehabilitation options."
