Dr. Carmen Barnhardt Raises the Research on Children’s Vision.

The second annual Applebaum Symposium was held in the recently redesigned lecture halls at the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO). Carmen Barnhardt, O.D. M.S.Ed., Chief, Studt Center for Vision Therapy at the Eye Care Center at SCCO gave a special presentation called “In the Eyes of A Child”. SCCO was one of the initial institutions to participate in the first major NIH/NEI funded amblyopia study conducted by the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group. SCCO continues the search for the best practices when resolving vision issues such as amblyopia or what is often called lazy eye. |

The Applebaum Symposium was established in 2011 with a special pledge of an endowment gift from Dr. Morrie Applebaum and his wife Arleen, who were in attendance for this year’s event. Dr. Applebaum is an alumnus and former faculty member at SCCO. Today he serves as a trustee to the College. SCCO President Kevin Alexander, O.D., Ph.D. was on hand to share his personal focus on children’s vision and how SCCO will continue to provide the community with the best eye, vision and health care.
