Primary Eye Care - Sepulveda VA '02-'03
- Briefly describe the patient population and types of disorders that routinely present at your clinic. Also, provide the typical number of patient encounters you have in a day.
- Geriatric population, male, between the ages of 55-95 yo. Mostly primary care examinations and few low vision and contact lens exams. Usually see between 10-15 patients/day.
- Describe other activities that you are available to participate in besides direct patient care. (i.e. Grand rounds, internal lectures, interaction with other health professionals, staffing of student interns)
- Clinical grand rounds at Sepulveda and West LA VA. Weekly lectures on varying topics. Rotation through Nursing home and Endocrine clinics, as well as Interprofessional team training.
- Briefly describe the setting of the clinic and the surrounding area.
- VA hospital setting with many subspecialty clinics.
- What are some strengths of the program and what areas do you feel need improvement.
- The main strength is the patient experiences. High volume of patients with interesting pathology. Close relationships with ophthalmology and good working relationship with residency supervisor.
- Briefly describe the geographic location/area of your residency program (what should one expect).
- The Sepulveda is located in North Hills (San Fernando Valley). Hot!!

- What were your reasons for applying for a residency and have they been addressed?
- To expand knowledge and experiences with ocular and systemic pathology. I applied for residencies to expand options for future employment (teaching and VA work).
